The Master Cleanse Diet became an instant hit with many of the celebrities helping them to lose the extra flab they have developed.

The up-and-coming star, Beyonce featured some time back in the Oprah Winfrey Show. She was present on the show along with the cast and crew of the picture Dreamgirls for which she had lost the weight to look svelte for the character. Once I was done with it, I gained my lost weight”. So, Beyonce put herself on to the Master Cleanse fasting diet. Albeit the diet is most often called a fast, it does not involve fasting totally. One can continue to consume around 1,300 calories from the ingredients that are all mentioned in the recipe which make up the Master Cleanse diet.

An interesting fact to make note of is that the diet was initially developed by Stanley Burroughs to treat stomach ulcer. The author of the book The Master Cleanser, Stanley Burroughs, claimed that it would not just treat ulcers but would also help in losing weight and would alleviate different types of The Lost Book of Herbal disorders. Also popular as “Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast”, it involved fasting for a time frame of 10 days. Stanley Burroughs first developed this diet to use it for different purposes like losing weight and detoxifying the body.

Master Cleanser diet gives a range of health benefits and the major one is that one can lose the extra weight they have accumulated over a period of time. It also helps in cleansing and detoxifying the colon. Apart from this there are no great benefits that the diet has.

Beyonce, of course did not follow stringent rules when she was on the Master Cleanse Diet. She also ate vegetables when she was on the Master Cleanse fast. During the fast one has to drink a concoction made of lime juice extracted from a fresh lemon, maple syrup and filtered water and to which cayenne pepper is added. One has to drink this around 6-12 times in a day along with the herbal laxative tea which should be consumed twice in a day. Apart from these drinks no other food has to be taken.

Once she finished off with the stint on the maple syrup diet, she was extremely happy to switch over to her regular style of eating the foods that she wanted. Needless to say, the extra pounds that she lost for the role in the movie Dreamgirls deposited on her back again as soon as she got off the master cleanse diet.

When she was quizzed on how she felt during the time when she was following the Master Cleanse fast, she admitted to Oprah, “I was getting absolutely cranky! People around me were busy eating Krispy Kreme doughnuts!”
